Aug Meeting

We discussed health this meeting. It was a small group, but mighty. No one took notes, oops! So let’s hope I can remember.

We talked about ewg.org, the organization that polices products that are harmful to us, that no one really knows is. Basically, from their stand-point, the FDA sounds useless. Look up your beauty products and see how many carcinogenics they say are in them. It’s frightening! Let alone your children’s products. It’s enough to make your head spin, and to make you switch products. It has for me.

Valerie came and brought Arbonne catalogues and talked about the benefits of using those products, saying they are natural and healthy.

We talked about the dangers of HFCS - high fructose corn syrup. Basically, it sounds SO bad, I’ve thrown out all out products that had it in them, and am checking before I buy anything to be sure it doesn’t. Yeesh! Some studies say it’s the cause of all the obesity in our country. That our body doesn’t know what to do with it, so also causes diseases, mineral loss, iron and magnesium loss, copper deficient, liver problems, etc.

Also, turns out non-organic corn, soy and wheat is genetically modified. Great! So eating HFCS is doubly bad. But that said, most products have corn in it. Most! But, since HFCS does horrible things to your body, and is genetically modified, it’s like, stay, away!

One study, maybe several, said it was so bad, it should be illegal! Okay, I will.

Then, we discussed cell phone dangers. I will bring that study to Sept’s meeting. But the short and the long of it, was that any child should NOT be using them. That their brain is too thin and absorbs even more harmful radiation. And basically, adults are better off not using either. One study said cell phones will be our generation’s cigarettes. That’s enough to scare me! I’m using it far much less. And am instead using my speaker blue tooth if I can help it. Cordless phones in the house are just as dangerous.

Deb said she could get us those things that you put on your phone to keep the radiation away, like using an antennae. I’ll be sure to ask her to bring her info for Sept’s meeting.

Well, I think that was all. Sept’s meeting will continue the health talk, the Wildlife Waystation, and we’ll be discussing how to follow our dreams! Sounds productive enough.

17  Sep
July meeting

We had a guest speaker by the name of Heather, who came from the Wildlife Waystation. She told us what they need to keep from closing down, and everyone was very excited to get involved.

We’re hoping our friends who work at studio will be able to ask about plywood for their animals who need better roofs, such as the llamas who need that right now.

Heather was going to ask about certain celebrities who could get involved in a charity function, like Betty White and Loretta Switt, in case they would show up to a function we hosted.

They really need sponsorship and have a wish list, which I hope to put on this site.

We talked about calling Animal Planet to see if they could get involved somehow.

They have a brunch for volunteers, at $150 a head and then you get to tour the grounds, because right now it’s not open for tours.

They could use a grant writer to help get more funds.

We talked about different events we could host. Biggest dream event would be a huge one at Warner Center Park. Heather could bring small animals, as she works with them there. Also talked about bake sales at schools to raise money. Or have a classroom donate.

Deb talked about hosting a xmas party at her house with wine and cheese. Black tie. Hors’ douvres. People donate wine for events. Deb knows or place that gets wine cheap. $100 to attend event. 50 people show up.

Did someone have a printer to donate? it looks like my notes say Mary is asking Jill? Don’t know. Oops!

Talked about doing a video with Alex, turning it into a youtube sensation. Then getting in on the news. Or get it viral to get people interested. Human interest stories. Put it on facebook too. Could turn it into longer video at an event.

Marilyn the founder of the place.

My (denise’s) mom’s friend’s daughter is a news reporter, could get it on the news?

Someone else knows Dorothy Lucy on Channel 11, call producer and get it on there.

Another member knows School of Rock kids, and could try to get them at a charity event, since it’s a family theme.

Silent auction. Brunch to Wildlife donated. Nokia tickets. Disney movies. Disney tickets.

Put video on Jen’s list. Or even talk about charity.

Grocery stores give old produce. But need people to drive it up. Trader’s Joe’s produce pick up twice a month.

orientation to volunteer. Heather will let us know.

It was a great meeting. And we were going to talk about other stuff. But people were so excited about this event, we never did. Sounds successful!
